What is Mental Health First Aid?
Mental Health First Aid is a 5 hour curriculum that teaches individuals about mental health challenges and how to help someone utilizing an action plan. Participants will be taken through the action plan, have opportunities to see crisis and non-crisis situations, and will discuss ways to aid individuals.
What is QPR?
Question, Persuade, Refer is a 2 hour class that teaches individuals how to help someone that may be thinking about suicide. Participants will learn about suicide statistics in the United States, signs and symptoms to look out for in potentially suicidal people, and how to properly help someone. Helping someone includes asking them questions, persuading them to accept help, and referring them to the professionals that will be able to help them recover.
Why should I take these classes?
Mental health is one of the most important aspects of our lives. Learning about it will help lower stigma which in turn will help others feel more comfortable with talking about it. Also visit our "Why?" page for more information.
Who can take these classes?
For Mental Health First Aid, anyone over the age of 18 that lives or works in San Bernardino County.
For QPR, anyone over the age of 16 that lives or works in San Bernardino County
How much do they cost?
Thanks to generous grants from Dignity Health and Kaiser Permanente, we are able to provide these trainings completely free to anyone that is eligible.
Do they come with certifications?
For Mental Health First Aid, a 3 year certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
For QPR, a 2 year certification from the QPR Institute.
Both are internationally recognized organizations.
Where do classes take place?
Classes are held in-person at your location. Arrangements for online classes can be made as needed.
